Martina Hingis and Jamie Murray reach U.S. Open mixed doubles semis

JAMIE MURRAY and Martina Hingis have reached the semi-finals of the US Open in the mixed doubles.

Andy’s brother lost out in the men’s doubles – with Bruno Soares – on Tuesday in a quick 6-1 6-2 battering in only 62 minutes against Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau.

But the Murray’s fortunes improved with a 6-3 2-6 10-8 win over rivals Abigail Spears and Juan Sebastian Cabal.

Romanian Tecau and women’s singles quarter-finalist Coco Vandeweghe await them the last four.

Hingis and Murray won their first Grand Slam title together at Wimbledon this year.

But Spears and Cabal are this year’s Australian Open champions and pose a serious threat.

Murray arrived in New York as the defending men’s champion and had a spring in his step at the prospect of defending his crown.

And hopefully that confidence will hang around for the remainder of his tournament in the mixed game.

He said: “It’s awesome, I’ve been walking around with a strut, shoulders back, and enjoying it.
